All of us have something that we love to collect, whether it be something small like small like postage stamps or something big like collector cars. Collections are a personal reflection of passion and they can often inform the world of a person’s real identity. The problem with collections is that the can sometimes get too big to handle! What can you do when your passion for collecting starts taking over the entire house? Let’s look at some examples of how people managed to cleverly and beautifully incorporate their collections into their homes.
One collector of vintage Australian blankets has run out of closet space for storage so she keeps the bright, cheerful blankets rolled up and displayed in wooden cubby shelves. The block patterns and multiple colors create a pleasing, soft collage that brings tons of charm to the space.
A collector of Fender guitars in Italy has gone with more of a museum approach by mounting his guitars on the walls throughout every room in the home except the kitchen and bathroom where humidity could cause them damage. He even had to build shelves to store the cases for the guitars, which look surprisingly good stacked vertically like large, leather-bound books. Gallery-style labels adorn the space below each guitar, accentuating the museum feel.
An obsessive collector of 20th Century women’s hats, one California woman has over 600 hats and 600 hat boxes to go along with them. She also gravitates toward the museum style by having her home stacked from floor to ceiling with hat boxes. The elegant nature of the hat boxes makes them look great as tall columns.
