How do you design a home for the rainforest? By putting the emphasis on nature. This home in the Daintree Rainforest in Queensland, Australia has a black plastic cladding and mirrored windows so that it seemingly recedes into the forest around it. Those same floor-to-ceiling windows create a dramatic view of the trees from within the home while gathering huge amounts of natural light. The home has an asymmetrical design with the ceiling sloping down from the tops of the windows down to the more standard back walls. The interior combines the same dark black coloring as the exterior as well as incorporating natural wood flooring and furniture. The home is divided into one large, open-plan living, eating, and cooking area and one area for bedrooms and bathrooms. A central patio acts as the border between the two spaces. It’s a gorgeous, contemporary bungalow that makes nature its central design element.
