Bathroom design is at a bit of a crossroads when it comes to whether or not tubs are a necessity in the home. Some people will balk at the suggestion that homeowners can live without a tub, but as contemporary ideas continue to trickle into bathroom design the bathtub is beginning to look more and more antiquated. So. Is it time to ditch the tub or would that be the wrong decision?
Modern homes tend to favor bathroom designs that focus on spacious, glass-enclose, walk-in showers that might have a bench and unique shower heads. It’s an undeniably chic look that truly feels like a reconsideration of the basic theories of the bathroom. These designs eschew the bulky tub in favor of more open space. It’s perfect for adult homeowners who want to push the state of design in their homes. However, it’s still a non-traditional design that many people are still not prepared to tackle.
What’s the downside? Resale value. While removing the tub from a home might be modern, many home buyers are not interested in a home that doesn’t have a bathtub. Bathtubs are often-considered an essential element for families with young children. It can be more challenging to bathe children in a shower. Real estate agents will tell you that it’s unwise to remove the bathtubs from your home if you ever plan on selling your home.
Verdict? As much as you might love the contemporary, bathtub-less-bathroom it might not be the wisest decision if you intend to sell your home in the future. If you’re locked into your home for the long haul then it’s OK to nix the tub!
