Forget Walls – You Won’t Believe These Brilliant Places To Hang Your Art Instead!

Art goes on the walls. We all know that. It’s basic design knowledge! But what if it didn’t? What if art branched out and found its way onto other surfaces? That’s exactly what designer Liz Lidgett wants to do with artwork in the future. She believes that the next big trend in wall art will be the exclusion of walls! And you know what? She makes a pretty compelling argument!

Liz goes by another name – The Art Hunter. She knows her stuff. She’s tired of seeing people take a piece of art, center it on a wall, and then call it a day. She’s always looking for the next big thing and she thinks she’s found it by placing art in unique, unexpected places. For example, a home that has pitched ceilings can look incredible if art is placed on the slant of the ceiling amidst the rafters. Don’t have the luxury of a pitched ceiling? Try placing artwork that extends from the wall directly onto the back of the door. Just make sure you secure these pieces a little tighter so that they don’t rattle every time the door is opened or closed! Hanging small pieces of art or decor along the side of the staircase can be the perfect way to tie the theme of a room together. A rustic home with horseshoes mounted along the steps looks better than you’d ever think!

The aforementioned ideas are all unique, but they’re not too crazy. These next ideas take matters to the next level! Liz suggests that hanging artwork in front of bookshelves is not only incredibly chic, but also incredibly functional. You can set items you don’t use very often (like a Wi-Fi router) on the shelf and let the artwork completely mask it! The art will look right at home among the other items on your bookshelves, too. She also recommends mounting a painting directly on a set of paneled windows. This looks especially good in a sunroom or conservatory where wall space is limited to windows and glass. It looks stunning! For a small apartment Liz has a really brilliant idea to hang artwork from the ceiling and use it as a divider for the room. You’ll kick yourself for not thinking of it! It looks extremely modern and is the perfect solution to a small, open apartment space.

Liz has been studying art and its use in home decor for her entire career. When she thinks she’s seeing trends develop then it’s time to pay attention! Check out the gorgeous examples of these styles in the article below!
