It’s basically impossible to finish a renovation project without having a few regrets about the end result. It’s simply the nature of the beast. However, you can certainly take some precautions to make sure that you have as few regrets as possible! Tanya, an interior design blogger, made her fair share of mistakes when she did a full bathroom renovation. Here’s what she has to say about how she’d do things differently if she had a second chance!
Let’s start off on a positive note by looking at the things Tanya did right with her renovation project. She was smart to hire out the big work that she wasn’t comfortable or capable of doing on her own. Don’t let personal pride overshadow getting the best results! She had professionals do the tub replacement and the tiles. She also splurged and got a soaking tub and a removable shower head. They’re convenient, luxurious, and comfortable. At the end of the day those are the types of things you want your bathroom to be! She also chose inexpensive vinyl flooring that wasn’t the sexiest option, but it was super easy to install and keep clean.
And now the not-so-good decisions she made. Tanya was feeling overwhelmed with all the design decisions so she did not think through every situation properly. For instance, instead of taking the time to choose a more stylish tile she opted to stick with basic white tile. This decision robbed the bathroom of its style potential. She also didn’t do her research when it came to countertops. She installed a marble counter but despite its beauty it became a nightmare to keep clean. Everything stained it and she was cleaning it constantly. Another issue she didn’t anticipate was that her vanity’s hardware was brushed metal but her sink basin was polished chrome. The two materials really clashed. Perhaps her biggest oversight was that she didn’t think about installing a shower nook or ledge during the renovation project. This left her with a sleek shower but nowhere to put her soap! This was definitely a case where function needed to trump form because Tanya had to resort to an ugly suction-cup shelf.
If you’re planning a bathroom renovation project then it would be wise to heed Tanya’s advice! Don’t end up having the same renovation regrets! Check out the full article below for even more advice.
