The Royal Institute of British Architects has awarded the House of the Year award to the Flint House, a home in the British countryside that’s made from natural materials and, notably, shaped like a wedge. On first glance the home could be mistaken for an ancient medieval structure rising naturally out of the ground, but a closer look reveals the modern details. Old, battered stones make up the exterior walls, but a smooth, asymmetrical stone staircase comprises the angled face of the wedge ascending to grassy terraces and glass skylights. The interior is as modern as it gets, complete with an interior grotto that reflects the shimmering light from the fireplace. Floor to ceiling glass walls allow plenty of natural light while also showcasing the texture of the stone. It’s one of the most interesting homes you’ll see. Check it out in the article below!
