You finally went and installed granite counters in your kitchen. Good choice! The only problem is that now you’re unsure what to do with the backsplash. Granite is an extremely variable material, with each slab having its own unique look and personality. This can make it a bit tricky when it comes to holistic design. So what should you choose for your backsplash?
An easy answer is to extend the granite all the way up from the counter to the bottom of the cabinets. Who needs a different backsplash when your granite is already gorgeous? And now it’s on display so that it’s easy to admire, even from a distance. If going all the way up to the cabinets is too bold or dominant of a look, then consider installing a standard 4 inches of granite as the backsplash. This will help pull some of the look up off the counter without completely dominating the look of the kitchen.
Tile is a natural compliment to granite. The good news is that there a lots of different tile styles that can be used with granite. Large, rectangular tiles create a smooth, modern look while neutral-toned glass tiles reflect the sheen of the tile splendidly. When choosing the color for your tile it’s a good idea to look at the granite itself and pull your favorite hue from it. This can inform you entire color scheme, too! If none of those tiles fit your fancy then you can always rely on subway tile. It’s not as interesting as some of the other options, but it’s often the perfect tile to complete the look of the room without being overpowering.
