Welcome to Home Design 101. With a little help from Homedit, we’ll be your guide to learning what should go where. These are the basic fundamentals: objective, laser-focused, and fascinating. You’ll be Do Yourself-ing a favor in the long run by learning how to work with what you have. Your style will come naturally after that.
(These techniques can apply to any and all artistic endeavors, by the way!)
Establishing a room’s focal point is essential: do you want your bathroom vanity to draw the eye first, or would you prefer that people focus on your tile pattern? Are you working with or against the way the room itself has been designed? Ambient lighting is of primary importance before you decide to add more fixtures. Negative space isn’t the enemy: sometimes leaving something blank or empty can enhance the overall look of the room.
Ask yourself these starter questions before you look for more information. Settle in with a cup of coffee, grab a notepad, and take notes as you read along. You’ll begin to see what it means to work with a room’s lines and harmonize textures, and you’ll be a hit at parties with your new artistic know-how.
