Install Pre-Pasted Wallpaper Like A Pro

If you’ve been paying attention to the blogosphere then you already know that wallpaper is in the midst of a renaissance. That’s because new styles of wallpaper look better than ever, are easier to apply to the walls, and can really boost your decor. Bathrooms are ripe for a wallpaper makeover because they’re small enough to DIY and have so much to gain from its addition. If you’re not quite sure how to install wallpaper on your own then keep reading to see how easy the process truly is!

As with any good DIY project, the first thing you’ll want to do is gather all of your materials to make sure you’re ready to go. Pro tip – buy a few extra rolls of wallpaper. Mistakes will happen, some paper will inevitably be wasted, and you don’t want to end up with a tiny bit of wall left to cover and no more paper! You’ll also need a sharp razor blade, scissors, a pencil, a level, a tape measure, a sponge, a spray bottle of water, and a wallpaper smoothing tool. Check and make sure there are no holes or bumps on your wall. Fill any holes and clean off any clumps of debris. Remove your light switch and outlet plates, too! Now you’re ready to get down to business.

Take a moment to consider where you want to start applying the wallpaper to your wall. Once you’ve chosen the starting point you should measure the height of the wall from the ceiling to the top of the baseboard. Add an inch or two to the height so that you have wiggle room when applying the wallpaper! Next you need to lightly pencil in a plumb line so that you guarantee your wallpaper is perfectly straight on the wall. To do this you’ll want to hold your level vertically and press one end flush to the ceiling. Make a vertical plumb line with the pencil and position your first panel of wallpaper with this mark! Chances are your walls are not perfectly square so it’s best to line up the wallpaper with this method! You only need one plumb line because the rest of the panels of wallpaper will connect to the first.

Now comes the scary part, which is actually applying the wallpaper. Take your spray bottle of water and spray the back of the wallpaper. Think of it like a giant envelope that needs moisture to create the sticky seal. The glue on the wallpaper will be at its most active about 5 minutes after spraying it with water. Pick up your first panel and line it up with the plumb line, leaving a bit of excess at the top. Smooth it down as you stick it to the wall so you don’t get any surprise air bubbles near the top! Be slow and gentle with this step. Use a razor to cut around outlets and light switches after the panel is attached. Then take a razor to the excess fringes at the top and bottom! Use a sponge to wipe up any excess glue and you’re all set!

See? Not too bad! Now you’ll be ready to tackle even the biggest wallpaper project. Check out the full article below for photos and even more instructions!
