Fire lookout stations at national parks and other recreation areas are easy to spot. They tower above the tree-line and look like cabins on stilts. They’re designed for short term living, but one couple decided that they wanted to move into one full-time. The couple rented out one of the fire lookout stations to see how manageable it would be to live in one long-term and decided that it was not only possible, it was exactly what they’d always dreamed of. They had an architect design and build their new fire lookout-inspired home in Oregon and they decked it out for private living. Unfortunately, it still has some wilderness features like an outhouse on the ground floor, but it’s a fair tradeoff for the amazing 360 degree views. Check it out!
