It’s the new year, which means that it’s time to look to the future and make decisions that will better both you and your home. You probably already have a few New Year’s resolutions like hitting the gym more often, spending less eating out, or trying to stay in better touch with loved ones, but there’s always room to add a design resolution to the list! Design resolutions will help you improve your home and will also help make you feel more accomplished! Here are some of the design resolutions you should adopt for the new year!
You’ve probably said this one before, but now is the time to resolve to declutter. The reason homes look so good in magazines and on the Internet is because they are almost always uncluttered. There are no knick-knacks or chintzy antiques crowding the shelves. It can be hard to let go of some items, especially if they have sentimental value, but more often than not the value of having a clean-feeling home outweighs any brief memory you have that’s associated with these items. Start with things that are damaged or broken or that you haven’t used in years. Donate what you can and throw away the rest! You’ll instantly feel better.
This year, resolve to make adult decisions about your interior design choices. Make this the year where you finally turn your back on Ikea. Instead, start investing in furniture that looks great and will last you a lifetime. This doesn’t mean that you should stop having fun with design. In fact, now’s the time to start adding color to your home! Give up on beige and taupe and embrace bright, vibrant colors that enhance the design of your home. Even white is a color that adds more character than anything in the neutral department.
The new year is also a great time to finally finish all those unresolved projects. And if you really don’t feel like you can finish them then it’s time to abandon them! Be decisive in the new year! You and your home will benefit. To see all the great ideas for design resolutions, check out the full article below!
