The Results Are In And These Are The Kitchen And Bathroom Trends To Watch

The National Kitchen And Bath Association (NKBA) had its annual survey and the results make it clear what styles are currently trending! Unsurprisingly, neutral colors are still dominant in both spaces – after all, neutrals do tend to have a timeless appeal. There’s also a trend toward simpler storage in both sets of spaces. Here are the design trends to keep an eye on as we move ahead in 2016.

What’s the one thing people are asking for more of in the kitchen? Pet amenities! Pets have always been an essential component of the household, but contemporary homes and homeowners are looking for ways to better integrate their pets’ needs with the design of the home. There’s no better place for these amenities than in the kitchen. People are looking for designated feeding stations, under-the-counter crate areas, and pull-out pet food and toy storage. Admittedly it seems a bit silly to have a beautiful kitchen and then have a couple of plastic dog bowls just sitting on the floor. Why not better integrate these features? Aside from pet needs, many people are also looking for more convenient built-ins like coffee stations, wet bars, and under-sink garbage disposals.

The contemporary trends in the bathroom are headed in the direction of increased maneuverability, access, and more practical storage. The survey found that many homeowners are installing more accessible features into their bathrooms. These additions include hand rails, comfort-height toilets and vanities, and no-threshold showers. People are increasingly removing their tubs in favor of easy-to-access showers. There are also a bevy of modern features that people are investing in such as towel warmers, steam showers, humidity-sensing fans, and smart toilets. White and gray are still the dominant colors, but when will white and gray ever go out of style, really?

The kitchen and the bathroom are some of the most-used spaces in the home, which means people are always looking for more convenient ways to interact with them. Read up on all the modern trends for these spaces in the article below!
