Dealing with an ever-increasing population and an ever-increasing amount of wealth pouring into the country, China decided to begin rapidly building and developing cities. However, not all of the cities ended up being necessary. That’s the story of Ordos, one of China’s largest “ghost towns”. It’s a completely modern city built for one million people but no more than 2 percent of its buildings were ever occupied. Now the city lies dormant on the outer edges of the Ordos Desert. There’s something incredibly surreal and bizarre seeing a whole city that’s almost entirely deserted. The architecture and design is all incredibly modern and there’s a certain quiet beauty to the atmosphere.
