Trends You Need To Consider And Trends You Need To Reconsider

It’s easy to get wrapped up in recent trends. There are so many fresh new designs and decor ideas that you’re eager to test out in your own home. However, just like all things in life, trends should be used in moderation. Instead of decking out your home with the latest and greatest style, here are some of the trends worth considering and some of the ones that you should really reconsider!

A trend that’s reemerging in 2016 is mixing patterns with other patterns. However, this has been a tried-and-true staple of the design world forever. It’s something that always works. Use patterns that are distinctly different to create an appealing palette. That being said, the ombré pattern is one that does not have the chops to last long in the home. Ombré refers to the gentle fading of color at it approaches the edge of furniture, drapes, or the walls. It’s like a gradient. It might look interesting for a short spell, but this is a pattern style that will fade from favor quickly.

Shiny metals used as accents and contrasts are big right now, but some metals are shining brighter than others. Brass is making a big comeback despite its tacky use in the ‘80s and ‘90s. It’s a metal that’s not as flashy as gold and features less orange tint. This makes it a good metal for staying relevant for the long haul. On the other end of the spectrum, copper is a metal that might look chic and trendy right now, but it won’t necessarily have the staying power as something like brass. If you want to take part in the copper trend then try to keep it to minimal accents like fruit bowls, displaying copper pans, or with drawer pulls. These are things that can be easily replaced once the copper trend has lost some of its sheen.

Trends are fun to take part in, but don’t be surprised when the trend fades and you’re stuck with a look that no longer feels very fresh. Learn which trends are worth latching onto and which ones are destined to be a flash in the pan. Check out the full list in the article below!
