Your Decor Is The Wrong Scale – Here’s Why

The Internet is full of home decorating advice, but it can sometimes be hard to translate the words and photos to the actual scale of the items  being discussed. Scale is one of the most common mistakes people make when decorating their homes. People might see advice online to decorate their homes using rugs, artwork, and lighting, but they don’t get the right sizes for their own homes. In these cases people often choose items that are too small for their spaces. When it comes to rugs, most living rooms need at least an 8’x10’. The 5’x7’ might be tempting because it’s cheaper and seems like it’ll be enough, but bigger is almost always better when it comes to rugs. The same goes for artwork. Designers have pooled their knowledge and agree that artwork should take up approximately 57 percent of a wall. Multiply the width of your wall and multiply that number by .57 to see how wide your artwork should be. You can either use one massive piece of art or use a gallery wall to hit that magic number. The one thing that people buy that’s too big for their space? Sofas. There should always be room around the furniture in a living room, so don’t buy a sofa that just barely fits or ends up smashed up against a wall. Check out all the scale advice in the article below!
